Queer theatre group, The Lampshade Shop, has received a $15,000 grant from Arts SA to help stage the Feast 2008 concert version of King of the West End.
Chairperson Neil Clegg told blaze that the Board was elated at the news, following on from recent news that The Lampshade Shop had been granted $17,000 from the Richard Llewellyn Arts and Disability to develop their Feast 2009 production Costume Change.
“In five years, the Lampshade Shop has gone from strength to strength and the fact that we are receiving substantial grants is testament to the quality of our achievements,” Clegg said.
Over 25 people have attended workshops for King of the West End. “The final workshop is on Sunday, August 3,” Clegg said, “and then the actual rehearsals begin. We still need up to 10 more men and women for the ensemble, the crowd scenes, so it’s not too late to get involved.”
King of the West End is at the Star Theatres, November 27-29 during Feast 2008.
Those interested in getting involved should phone Neil on 0423-932-638.
