Feast is looking for participants 26 and under for an exciting new piece of theatre.
Like it Is will investigate our opinions, beliefs and levels of acceptance of diverse sexualities within our society.
Some would argue that society has become more accepting of diverse sexualities and that queer people are represented in the mainstream media in television shows, such as Big Brother, but how does this translate to the everyday? What level and type of homophobia and discrimination is experienced on a day to day basis?
Are same-sex couples visible on the streets and if not, why not? How safe do LGBT people feel in Adelaide in shared public spaces? How many same-sex attracted people feel comfortable about expressing affection in public? What does it feel like to not be able to exercise the same liberties and freedoms as straight members of society?
How can we use the material we discover to educate and promote acceptance within society?
In 2008, Like It Is will be a work in progress, with the full production planned for 2009.
You will have the opportunity to work with three professional artists. Sophie Hyde will bring her experience in documentary film making to the project and Jay Robinson will bring his experience as a dancer and choreographer to the project. Daniel Clarke, Artistic Director of Feast Festival will direct this project.
There will be 10 weekly three hour workshops and a weekend workshop to be held in early October. It’s imperative that all participants are able to commit to these workshops. The performance of this piece will be during the Festival November 24, 2008.
The first workshop is August 31 at 2pm and the weekend workshop will be held October 11 and 12.
