Colours, Copernicus, crosswords, crime and cash figure prominently in a documentary feast this fortnight. FRIDAY JUNE 5 The Silent Witness team is called in to investigate an armed raid on a suspected terrorist cell, but not all is as it seems. ABC1 at 8.30pm. SATURDAY JUNE 6 The case of actor Michael Austin, shot dead by his wife during a performance on stage, comes under notice in New Tricks, ABC1 at 7.30pm. SUNDAY JUNE 7 The Moving Earth, SBS at 7.30pm, looks at the battle that began between the Church and science in 1542 when Copernicus claimed the Earth moved around the Sun. The church set out to punish scientists making such scandalous claims, but in the end, Rome lost out to truth. At 7.30pm, a heart-warming doco, The Bear Man of Kamchatka, on ABC1. It’s the story of one man's campaign to prove grizzly bears can live harmoniously with people. And at 8.30pm, on ABC1 Ballet Shoes is another heart-warmer. Set in 1930s London, it follows the adventures of three orphans - adopted by an eccentric explorer. A very different role for Silent Witness’ Emilia Fox. MONDAY JUNE 8 A shadowy group which kidnaps spies and tortures them for their secrets, target the Spooks, in the series final of ABC1 at 9.35pm. Ian becomes angry with Liam when he discovers that he has been skipping school, in Shameless, SBS at 10pm. TUESDAY JUNE 9 In part 2 of Million Dollar Traders, SBS at 7.30pm, the eight novice city traders struggle to ride the storm as stock markets around the world go haywire. At 8.35pm on SBS, Car Bomb is a 2-part UK doco on how, when, where and why, such devices came into being. Some subtitles. WEDNESDAY JUNE 10 Cracking the Colour Code is a 3-part visual exploration by SBS of how we view colours, how we make them, and the meanings they hold in our world. Begins at 8.30pm. THURSDAY JUNE 11 A rival ad agency uses Betty in an attempt to lure Don away from Sterling Cooper in Mad Men, SBS at 8.30pm. Why do stock markets have bubbles and busts? The Perfect Vagina, SBS at 10.05pm. SATURDAY JUNE 13 At 7.30pm on ABC1, the death of a radio shock jock in a deliberately lit fire is re-examined in New Tricks. SUNDAY JUNE 14 David Attenborough presents a new 6-part series Nature’s Great Events, beginning on ABC1 at 7.30pm. First up, the great melt which happens across the Arctic Circle every summer. On SBS at 7.30pm, Prehistoric Astronomers poses the provocative question: what if Prehistoric Man was clever enough to develop in-depth scientific knowledge? 3 Acts of Murder is a true story about a crime writer who plotted the perfect murder – and the man who stole the idea, and enacted it. ABC1 at 8.30pm. MONDAY JUNE 15 Guy of Gisborne morphs into a spy (yes, that’s right!) in the new series of Spooks on ABC1 at 9.35pm. A teenage boy's fantasy becomes reality for Chesney when he is introduced to a married housewife who pops his cherry and the Gallagher clan falls apart in Shameless, SBS at 10pm. TUESDAY JUNE 16 On the final day only three of the eight traders are left, but will they manage to make a profit? The final of Million Dollar Traders, SBS at 7.30pm. The final also of Car Bomb airs on SBS at 8.35pm. Kenny has decided he's had enough of India, in Mumbai Calling, ABC1 at 9.35pm. At 10pm on SBS, Wordplay investigates people’s obsessions with cross-word puzzles, and we meet a 20-year-old taking on established champions in the US Crossword Puzzle tournament.
