Steven Spielberg Movie moghul Steven Spielberg has joined the fight against a proposed gay marriage ban in California.
Proposition 8 – also called the Marriage Protection Act – seeks to overturn a California Supreme Court ruling that made gay marriage legal in that state.
Last week Brad Pitt donated US$100,000 to the cause, saying, "Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8."
Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw have donated the same amount.
In a statement, the pair said, "By writing discrimination into our state constitution, Proposition 8 seeks to eliminate the right of each and every citizen in our state to marry regardless of sexual orientation. Such discrimination has no place in California's constitution, or any other."
Propostition 8 would change California’s constitution to limit marriage to a man and a woman. It will be voted on during the November US ballot.
