p6_austria-gay-pride-vienna_250.jpg120,000 revellers have attended Vienna’s annual Rainbow Parade.

Organisers credited the record turnout to the 30C temperatures in the Austrian capital.

The parade had a soccer theme, in keeping with Austria's recent hosting of Euro 2008.

Organisers chanted, "No more offsides" aiming to highlight the government's dithering over a proposed gay marriage bill.

In Hungary, riot police had to use water cannons and tear gas to stop right-wing opponents from throwing petrol bombs at Budapest Pride.

Police detained 45 people after the anti-gay demonstrators tried to disrupt the annual gay rights march.

They were armed with petrol bombs, rotten eggs, faeces, eggs filled with acid or paint and cobblestones.

Last year, Hungarian police were criticised by Amnesty International for an apparent lack of action when similar violence occurred.
