The Parkestone Association has donated $1800 to support gay and lesbian community projects in the next 12 months while the Lampshade Shop has received funding from the Richard Llewellyn Arts and Disability Trust.
The successful Parkestone Trust applicants were the 2009 IDAHO project, Susan Bruce and The Underground Film Company.
The IDAHO committee will receive $500 towards printing costs for IDAHO 2009.
Bruce will receive a similar amount for the production of multiple DVD copies of her film-in-progress Drowning Duncan.
The Underground Film Company will receive $800 towards the cost of purchasing film stock for their proposed film Barnacles Will Grow on Your Heart.
A Parkstone spokesperson said that six applications for funding had been received. The trustees regretted they were unable to fund them all.
Meanwhile gay community theatre group The Lampshade Shop has been funded by the Richard Llewellyn Arts and Disability Trust to work with writer Robert Moore to creatively develop his new script Costume Change. People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and Gay Men's Health are project partners.
A $17,000 grant will allow Moore to work with nationally renowned dramaturge Peter Matheson.
A cast of professional actors will rehearse the play with director Geoff Crowhurst in a one-week intensive creative workshop in February.
The Lampshade Shop hopes to present Costume Change during Feast 2009.
Costume Change explores aspects of HIV, particularly as it affects country people.
