    Bashing at Apex Park

A man received a severe bashing on Wednesday night July 1 at a well-known gay beat.

The man was sitting in his car at Apex Park, West Beach, at around 8pm when three men pulled up in a white 4x4 dual-cab ute.

The driver approached the man and asked “Do you like your family?” before punching him through the open car window. Another of the men climbed into the back seat and began punching the victim repeatedly on the back of the head.

The man escaped and ran to the road where he was helped by a passing motorist. In a stroke of bad luck, a passing police vehicle missed the incident by mere seconds.

Police patrols flooded the area but no sign of the attackers was found.

A/ Senior Sergeant Ric Schulz, who is the gay and lesbian liaison officer at Sturt Police Station, told blaze that beat users need to know there are dangerous types out there, so they need to be extra careful.

“This didn’t even happen in the middle of the night,” Schultz pointed out. “It happened around eight o’clock.”

Anyone in the area of Apex Park at that time on Wednesday July 1 who may have seen the incident or the men in the white 4x4 dual-cab ute should contact police to help identify the bashers.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone else who may have been assaulted in the area, or has witnessed a similar assault.

“We really need to hear from people if this sort of thing has happened before. Maybe there's somebody who's been hesitating over contacting the police. If so, please do come forward,” Schultz said.

Information can be passed anonymously to BankSA Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000, or to police on 131 444.

Alternatively Ric Schultz can be contacted directly at Sturt Police Station on 8207 4820 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
