GODDAMED
JAY BRANNAN [NETTWERK RECORDS]
This dreamboat (and NYC-based singer/songwriter and Shortbus actor) with the honey-dipped vocals has been an online star for a good while now, using his MySpace and YouTube profiles to build a dedicated following. So it’s no surprise that a complete album of sensual acoustic songs is now available for an iTunes download.
Openly gay, Jay sings songs about same-sex love, speaking directly to his audience in a language they understand: the telling words of queer passion.
He’s ever so cheeky with his interpretation of bent romance, and poetically slips in the F-bomb more than Gordon Ramsay on a bad day.
Songs like ‘I Wanna Be a Housewife’, ‘Half-Boyfriend’ and ‘American Idol’ will have you smiling stupidly like a lovestruck teenager, wishing that Jay’s love was all yours. It’s mine.
IDENTIFIED
VANESSA HUDGENS [HOLLYWOOD RECORDS]
Part Britney (but with her hymen intact), part Cher (vocoder voices are so passé) and part Christina (but still too Mickey Mouse), this High School Musical star has branched out into the scary world of popular music with this new album of contemporary US sounds.
Word on the street reckons that sugar-coated Vanessa is quietly repositioning herself for an adult audience now that she has too much hair in all the wrong places to be a Disney star.
Accordingly, the big guns have been placed in charge of production, including Kelly and Katy’s Dr Luke, and Rihanna and Sean Kingston’s JR Rotem.
But this girly girl struggles to pull off a convincing diva act and lacks the lust factor needed to luck in.
