STEPHEN SONDHEIM

Stephen Sondheim is an American composer and lyricist for stage and screen. Sondheim was born March 22, 1930 and in a life devoted to music, he has won an Academy Award, multiple Tony Awards (seven, more than any other composer) and the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize. His musical composition as well as his lyrics set the tone for modern musical theatre and he is acknowledge as one of the greatest and perhaps best-known artists in the American musical theatre.  His most famous scores include A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Little Night Music, and Sweeney Todd.  Sondheim’s capacity to initiate new forms and to rise to the challenge are characteristics of his sign, Aries.
