Wine lovers around the state wait patiently for the annual Barossa Gourmet Weekend and this year’s event should be the best yet with the theme Paint it Red!
The three day weekend (August 22-24) promises a festive and innovative event with 24 of the region’s most exciting wineries showcasing their best wines matched with delicious food and some of South Australia’s best live entertainment.
New in the Barossa Gourmet line-up is Sieber Road Wines, which is a newly opened, contemporary cellar door. And well known Barossa names will be on show for the weekend, including favourites Chateau Tanunda, Gibson, Whistler, Elderton and Barossa Valley Estate.
In a new addition to the program, Richmond Grove has included opera in the weekend’s entertainment offering. And as a further diversion, both Gomersal Wines and Murray St Vineyards are hosting special dinners with menus from esteemed local chefs, featuring sumptuous fare from the region’s producers.
Regulars to this event will know that there’s no better way to enjoy Barossa Gourmet then booking in for the entire weekend. The Barossa has accommodation to suit all budgets – try the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort or the wealth of cosy Bed and Breakfasts dotted around the district.
Make sure that you drop into Dragonfly Antiques (shops 2&3 – 41 Queen Street, Williamstown) and experience the wonderfully eclectic collection of luxury furniture on display – a must for any visitor to the Barossa.
The 2008 Barossa Gourmet will be child friendly with activities organised to ensure the entire family enjoys the event.
The event will also support the Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign. The Foundation’s CEO Geoff Halsey said, “Heart disease kills four times as many women as breast cancer, and is responsible for 17 per cent of all female deaths in Australia. Yet few women are even aware they are at risk. This ignorance is costing lives. We are grateful for the support of the Barossa and in particular the iconic Barossa Gourmet weekend in helping to highlight this critical public health issue.”
For a guaranteed fabulous winter weekend full of flavour and fun in Australia’s premier wine and food region, the Barossa Gourmet Weekend is simply a must! For a copy of the full program phone 1300 852 982 or visit www.barossa.com
