Mid Winter Feast

Feast has come up with a new fundraiser – a Mid Winter night-time Feast.

For the past three years, Feast’s show committee has organised a Christmas in July lunch in the Adelaide Hills showcasing the gourmet talents of Vicki Matchett. So why the change?

“We wanted to have a mid winter night-time event in the city - try something new. What we have come up with is definitely different,” says Brenton Smith from the Feast show committee.

“Mid Winter Feast will be catered by Texas Bull Machine, SA’s original spit roast caterers. The menu includes a variety of hot spit roasts, baked vegies with vegetarian options and luscious desserts plus drinks from the fundraising bar,” said Smith.

Entertainment features performances by two groups never before seen by the queer community. A Winter Mummers’ play performed by Adelaide’s Fayre Guisers, an all male troupe celebrating Winter Solstice and Hot For Joe, a women’s Morris dancing team – a modern interpretation of an ancient dance tradition.

Mummers’ plays are originally from the British Isles. Their origins can be traced back to the Middle Ages. “These are seasonal folk plays performed at feasts, performed by troupes of actors known as Mummers. These unique comic performances are enjoying a revival. Adelaide’s Fayre Guisers perform their Mummers plays at festivals which keeps the pagan tradition alive,” adds Smith.

Hot For Joe is an award winning women’s Morris dancing team. Morris dancing is also from the British Isles. Traditionally villages had their own style of dancing and costume. Hot For Joe has developed a truly unique form of Morris dancing featuring precise, energetic dancing presenting a mysterious and dramatic performance.

“The venue will be decorated, warm, easy to find with lots of parking. For $35 you get dinner, entertainment and a glass of the Feast Show committee’s famous mulled wine,” said Smith.

Saturday July 25 at 7pm. Unley Citizens Centre, 18 Arthur St, Unley. To book: 8231-2155.
